RaW – Readers and Writers Festival
The Whyalla Public Library is thrilled to be holding Whyalla’s first ever Readers and Writers (RaW) Festival!
The festival will be held from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 April at the library, Mount Laura Homestead and Library Pod. Visiting authors from around South Australia will be joining local authors and creatives for a full weekend program of author talks, workshops, panel discussions and lots more.
The RaW Festival will be a rare treat for a regional setting, engaging readers, writers and storytellers of all ages and backgrounds, and bringing together our community and the region to celebrate and share in the importance of storytelling.
Most events are FREE or at a low cost but bookings via Eventbrite are a must.

WTF – What’s The Future – Sharing YOUR Vision for OUR Future
The Whyalla community has provided valuable feedback regarding the current state of the city and the performance of Whyalla City Council.
All residents now have an exciting opportunity to help create a long-term vision for Whyalla – one based on our collective hopes and aspirations. We received a record (and statistically valid) response to our Annual Community Survey, with nearly 550 people having their say. The key findings of the survey will now be shared and built upon at an upcoming community workshop.
Called ‘WTF?! What’s the Future? Sharing YOUR Vision for OUR Future’, the workshop will be an inspiring opportunity for local people to continue to help shape the city’s future, with the outcomes feeding into a 20-year community plan for Whyalla.

It was great to see Adelaide media shining the spotlight on Whyalla for all the right reasons recently. Channel 9 journalist Ben Avery visited our city to find out more about what the touted hydrogen projects mean for our city, speaking to a number of locals, including Mayor Phill Stone and our CEO Justin Commons. This was followed by extensive media regarding GFG Alliance’s transformation update. Check out all the positive news by following the links below!

The Master Plan explores the full potential of the City of Whyalla and its surrounding area, with a focus on developing both existing and new trails that capitalise on the City’s natural and built environments. It identifies and clearly outlines a program of path and trail infrastructure with potential to be developed across the city.

Celebrating SA Youth Week 2023
On the Saturday March 25 and Sunday March 26 Council partnered with, Headspace and Plaza Youth to put on an event to celebrate SA Youth Week. The two-day skateboarding workshop, supported by the Department of Human Services saw the crew from Build Up Skateboarding come to Whyalla and work with the local young people to build boards, teach them how to skate and do tricks and encourage positive social interaction.
The event saw approximately 400 young people attend Risk It Park over the weekend with a team of volunteers supporting the event by providing additional activities, food and drinks including cooking over 650 sausages over the two days.
