Its Cuttlefest time!
Exciting news with the arrival of the Australian Giant Cuttlefish (Sepia Apama) to the coastal waters near Stony Point.
These ‘chameleons of the sea’ are one of the largest species of cuttlefish found, reaching up to 60cm in length and weighing up to 5kg.
The migration by these majestic creatures to these waters is for the sole purpose of spawning. Every year between May and August, they come in their tens of thousands to mate and reproduce, in the process creating an amazing spectacle of cunning games, predation, underwater light shows and colourful kaleidoscopic displays.
There are many ways that you can view this phenomenon in and out of the water.
Give the Whyalla Visitor Information Centre a call on (08) 8645 7900 for information on how you can check out these beautiful creatures in and out of the water
Head to whyalla.com to find out all about Cuttlefest and the events happening in our community to celebrate the Cuttlefish!

Damo and Jordan are two of the team members who take good care of our green spaces. Here they are giving the Memorial Oval grass a trim.
Damo, Nick and Jordan take great pride in their work, and we thank them for their efforts!
