School holiday fun
Grace Doble colouring in her kite during a free school holiday workshop
The summer school holidays are over, and the children have now returned to school. The Council teams put together a great school holiday program with most sessions packed with attendance.
Some highlights included the Aussie Animal Adventure at the Whyalla Maritime Museum, Dr Quark’s Scientific Circus and the Toon Time cartooning workshop with Richard Parker from the Children’s University at the Whyalla Public Library and the weather turned it on for the free drop in kite making and flying session held down at the foreshore.
Thanks to our community for getting behind the programs and coming out and having fun with us all!
Check out some of the photos captured over the school holidays at the bottom of this page!

What’s old is new again

Pictured with the first of the furniture to be installed (at the foreshore) are Open Spaces Coordinator Matt Rotherham, left, School-Based Trainee Dakota Knowles, and Project Manager Landscape Sam Bourne.
Discarded planks from Whyalla's old jetty have been recycled and turned into furniture to be used right across the city. This is part of our commitment to a circular economy, ensuring we reuse and recycle as much as possible.
The outdoor crew have been busy placing benches and picnic settings around the city in various locations. Many of them suggested by our community via our Facebook page. We would like to thank the community for their suggestions.

Northern Water Supply Business Case
A Northern Water Supply – Business Case project is currently being conducted by the State Government. The Business Case will assess the environmental, social and economic benefits and impacts of a seawater desalination plant and 450km of pipeline. This includes any potential impacts on the Cuttlefish. Council will continue to advocate for the protection of the Cuttlefish.
The survey is open with responses able to be submitted until 28 February.
We encourage you to visit the Northern Water Supply YourSay page to learn more about the business case and to take the opportunity to complete the survey and have your say.

Depot crew visits a highlight at the Whyalla Child Care Centre
Lyndon with the children at the centre emptying the bins // The children watching the tree crew in action
The children at the Child Care Centre love having visitors. They get super excited when the outdoor crew visit and every Tuesday when Lyndon comes to empty the recycle bins at the Child Care Centre.
Often the children will climb up to the top of the fort for a glimpse of Lyndon at work.
Last week some of the Children were lucky enough to head out with their educator Jo to see Lyndon close up at work, Lyndon spending time showing the children how the recycling truck works evening giving some of the children the opportunity to use the lever to open and close the lid on the top. The children were super excited by this!
Well done to Lyndon for taking a few extra minutes out of his day to spend time with the Children, making their day!
The tree crew also visited the Child Care Centre to remove some unhealthy trees and as you can see from the photo below the children also have loved watching the action from safely indoors!
