Christmas on the Avenue POSTPONED
Due to the high likelihood of heavy rain predicted across the weekend and the risk it poses to electrical equipment and floats – and the likelihood of significantly reduced crowd numbers – Whyalla City Council and the Whyalla Show Society have unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to postpone Christmas on the Avenue. The show must go on though, with the event now scheduled for Wednesday 20 December from 6pm, with the Community Carols starting at 7.30pm.

Mayor Phill Stone said organisers understood this may unfortunately not be suitable for everyone, particularly being mid-week, but due to the extremely short notice at this late stage of the year, this was the only date that was feasible to reschedule.
“The organising teams have worked tirelessly to fast-track planning with one single goal – to ensure our community, particularly the children, do not miss out on these major Christmas events,” Mayor Stone said.
“Unfortunately, it is not as simple as postponing to the next weekend, as availability of participants, equipment, legal compliance and a range of other matters have had to be taken into account.
“There’s a later start time to allow for it being on a work day – as well as helping minimise the impact on businesses in the road closure area – plus it will be during school holidays, so hopefully the majority of our community will still be able to attend and appreciate the efforts of those working towards a successful Plan B.”
Council will continue to provide further updates over the coming days – stay tuned!
