The countdown is on until Santa hops in his sleigh and pays Whyalla a visit at the Apex GFG Whyalla Christmas Pageant, with the physical pageant finally able to return this year on Saturday 26 November.
Damien Trenwith - from pageant organisers Whyalla Apex Club – said they are thrilled to bring the pageant and after-pageant fair back to the Whyalla city streets and beautiful Ada Ryan Gardens.
“We are thankful for the efforts of the community that were involved in the digital pageant over the past two years – they were a great success and well supported – but we are really looking forward to Whyalla getting behind the traditional pageant we all know and love,” Mr Trenwith said.
Mayor Clare McLaughlin said the pageant and after-pageant fair were wonderful ways to bring the community together.
“It is a big event in Whyalla’s calendar, and we have missed it the last two years, so it’s great to see it return to the city streets,” Mayor McLaughlin said.
“It’s wonderful to see all the families and friends gathering to watch and acknowledge everyone’s efforts to be in the pageant and bring joy to our community.”
Kicking off from 5pm from the top of Forsyth Street, the parade will travel down Forsyth Street, Patterson Street, and Jamieson Street to Cudmore Terrace, before finishing at Ada Ryan Gardens with the after-pageant fair.
Apex Whyalla are now putting out the call for applications from those wanting to be involved in the pageant and after-pageant fair.
“We have a tight turn around this year and would like applications in by Friday 11 November (this Friday) so that we can get organised to make the event a success,” Mr Trenwith said.
The Pageant will start at 5pm with road closures in place from 4pm. The after-pageant fair will be held in Ada Ryan Gardens following the pageant with fun for the whole family.
Download the application form here, or pop into the council civic building to pick one up in person.
Application forms are to be returned to Apex via email whyallaapexclub159@gmail.com
