Pool maintenance in lead-up to major works
14 December 2022
In the lead up to major works on the Whyalla Leisure Centre next year, maintenance is required on the children’s leisure pool to ensure it can remain open until the project starts.
The leisure pool will be closed from Monday December 19 for approximately three weeks, enabling tiles to be repaired; the ‘sandy beach’ ramp entrance resurfaced; and the wet deck grating repaired. The 25-metre pool will remain operational throughout this period.
The original aim was to address these issues as part of the major works next year. However, these areas have now deteriorated to a point that they present a risk to public safety and need to be fixed immediately.
Mayor Phill Stone said Council was currently working with YMCA management and contractors to minimise disruption to services at the centre.
“We appreciate the community’s patience, and we understand the frustration that has been felt with the current state of the centre,” Mayor Stone said.
“Council is looking forward to the full renewal project commencing in 2023, which will see major works conducted at the centre. This will improve the facility for the whole community to enjoy for years to come.”
Included in the renewal upgrades will be the installation of a new hydrotherapy pool/spa; new splash pad play area and learn to swim pool; new underfloor plumbing; plant room upgrades; removal of the slide; re-tiling and grouting of the 25-metre pool; among other upgrades.
The call to undertake the work will go out in the first quarter of 2023.
Council will provide further updates on the renewal upgrades as the project progresses throughout 2023.
