NOMINATE OUR OUTSTANDING CITIZENS TODAY

Time is running out to get your nominations in for the 2023 Whyalla Citizen of the Year Awards with nominations closing next week- Wednesday 30 November at 5pm!

Whyalla City Council CEO Justin Commons said the Citizen of the Year Awards are an incredibly important event of the year where we recognise those that have made significant contributions to the community, not only throughout 2022, but over many years.

“The Citizen of the Year Awards are special, it’s the one time of the year where we get to reflect, publicly award and thank those people in our community who go above and beyond to make Whyalla a great place.” Mr Commons said.

“Those nominees who receive awards are often the unsung heroes in our community – they are the people who do not seek reward or recognition, but do what they do for the love of it. Because of this, we are seeking the community’s help – we need you to nominate these outstanding individuals and organisations. Take the time to complete a nomination form and see these outstanding citizens recognised.”

This year there will be four categories, with the citizen, young citizen, senior citizen, and community service awards to be presented.

Nomination forms are available online at the website and from council’s civic building on Darling Terrace, and the Whyalla Public Library.

Nominations close at 5pm on Wednesday, 30 November 2022.

Outstanding contribution and community service include areas such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary service, business, sport, arts, the environment, or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of the community.

To be eligible, the person must be an Australian citizen, over 16 years and under 30 years of age on 26 January 2023 for the young citizen category, or aged 60 years or over for the senior citizen award.
