PROTECTING OUR WILDLIFE

kerryann sam
Kerryann Jacobs, left, and Whyalla City Council Project Manager Landscape Sam Bourne need your help to locate the stolen ‘lizard crossing’ signs.

We're calling on the Whyalla Community to help solve the case of the stolen lizard sign.

Kerryann wrote to Council about the number of dead lizards she was regularly seeing on Mullaquana Road, leading to the lizard warning sign being installed.

“I just want to see them protected and help them get across the road safely. It’s really sad to know more are likely to be killed now, because people won’t know they are there,” Kerryann said.

The first sign was installed and lasted no more than a week before it was stolen.

Council then arranged for a second sign to be installed. The second sign was installed, Council announced that it was in place and sadly the sign did not last 24 hours before it to was stolen.

Anyone with any information that can help catch the culprits or locate the stolen signs can either call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 – where you can remain completely anonymous – or local police on 8648 8020. Follow this link to read the full story: https://bit.ly/3Eo9kIr

This week the Whyalla Childcare Centre have been raising much needed funds for the - Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

A family who currently attend the Childcare Centre use RMHC - like many in our community - and approached the Childcare staff about fundraising to give a little back.

The Childcare Centre staff have been wearing red and yellow clothing and doing red and yellow activities along with accepting donations from families.
