NATIONAL TREE DAY – A BIG SUCCESS

kirsty

Claire, Kirsty and Emily were happy with their selection of natives ready to be planted in their garden

FROM LITTLE THINGS, BIG THINGS GROW: Saturday 30 July saw hundreds of Whyalla residents turn out to another successful National Tree Day Event.

Over 600 native shrubs and groundcovers were given out over the three-hour period at the Ada Ryan Gardens nursery.

The remaining 200 plants were allocated and given to schools, businesses and community groups via delivery of mystery boxes for them to plant and nurture for years to come.

Planning has begun for next year’s event, with the National Tree Day event team already putting in the order with the Port Augusta Arid Land Gardens.

FIRST NATIONS TRAIL

Signage has now been installed for Whyalla First Nations Trail as part of the Northern Coastline project.

The First Nations Trail is funded by the State Government and the City of Whyalla and is a hiking, cycling and driving trail. The 13-kilometre stretch offers spectacular views of the Gulf, Flinders Rangers and Cultana Range.

Along the trail you will encounter stunning signage with works created by Barngarla Artists Jody, Breanna, Jason and Thommo Croft.

You can visit the Whyalla Visitor Information Centre for more information on the trail.

We ask that those visiting the northern coastline and travelling along the trail respect the geological and heritage sites, stick to dedicated paths, tread lightly, do not disturb wildlife or remove native plants and leave no traces behind.

The First Nations Trail is on Barngarla Country and we pay our respects to the Barngarla people, to Elders past present and future.
