GRANNY HAY TAKES FLIGHT

Patricia Hay Ready to Take Flight Thanks to Barossa Helicopters

The Whyalla Wings event brought smiles to the faces of young and old on the weekend – none more so than the lady affectionately known as Granny Hay 😀

She had one wish for her 100th birthday - to go up into the clouds in a helicopter! Thanks to the team from Barossa Helicopters, that wish came true last Saturday.

Granny Hay was joined by some of her family for the special occasion, with two of her grandsons getting to take the special flight with her.

Granny Hay could not contain her excitement, just about running down the ramp onto the tarmac ready to get into the helicopter! Before the flight, she had received some special media attention and her granddaughter Casey placed Granny Hay’s service medals apon her chest – a special moment.

Granny Hay had the most incredible time, still reliving the moment and talking about it.

Granny Hay was born in Dundee Scotland in 1922 and served in the Royal Airforce as a cook during the war. During her service, she met her future husband Frederick Hay. Patricia and Fred married, had three children then migrated to Adelaide in 1956.

Granny Hay has three children, eight grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren and loves them all equally.

If you attended the Whyalla Wings event, we are really keen to hear your thoughts and feedback. Please take the time to complete the event survey to help guide future planning.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION – VOTING

vote

Time's running out to have your say on who's deciding Whyalla's future, with postal votes due at the Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA) by next Thursday 10 November.

Of the 15,594 people in Whyalla eligible to vote, only 4,491 (28.8%) have voted so far. If you're one of the 71.2% who haven't voted, be sure to get your skates on. We recommend putting your completed ballot envelop in the post box before Friday 4 November.

ECSA has been sending reminder texts to eligible voters, so please be aware you may receive one even if you've already voted.

CELEBRATING PRIDEVEMBER

pridevember launch

Council staff, Courtney from Headspace and Anastasia and Michal from D’Faces celebrate and support PRIDEvember

We are proud to get behind our diverse community by supporting PRIDEvember. For the month of November, the progressive flag will proudly be displayed in the civic building window.

We will also be working with D faces of Youth Arts and Headspace to celebrate with a day of community activities on 19 November 2022.

The day will kick off with the Rainbow Picnic, an event for all ages. There will be free lunch and the painting of words of support on the pathway in Civic Park.

Following the Rainbow Picnic, those aged 15-25 are invited to come along to Here. Now. Feast, an event hosted by Writers SA and D’faces held at the Mount Laura Homestead. Here. Now. Feast is a free literary showcase event celebrating the voices of queer regional young people from across SA.

Following Here. Now. Feast, the lights will dim and the party begins as we celebrate with a PRIDE Party. There will be music by AJ’s Sound and Lighting, photo booth and plenty of fun and dancing. This is strictly a drug-and-alcohol-free event for ages 15-25 years. Register to attend now!
