Audit Targets Potential Savings
Did you know Whyalla was one of the first regional centres in Australia to introduce a full three bin and food organics / garden organics kerbside service? We even led the regions in our performance of diverting waste from landfill, thanks to the amazing efforts of our community.
This is great news for residents, as savings from reductions in Council’s waste costs can instead be better spent on community facilities and services, rather than being absorbed by fees for landfilling.
To ensure we’re continuing to effectively use the three-bin system – helping redirect funds to invest in our wellbeing through projects such as new sporting facilities, footpaths, playgrounds and streetscape upgrades, rather than waste management – Council is undertaking a random kerbside bin audit throughout June.
No bin address or personal contents will be identified or reported against, however, if you wish to not have your bin audited, please contact council’s Waste Officer Charuka Sanduni on 8640 3444.
Whyalla could be the location of new waste management plants and processing infrastructure, which would lead to more local employment and more services to our neighbouring regions.
To be eligible for this investment attraction, the community needs to use Whyalla’s three-bin kerbside service to the highest of standards and demonstrate our collective ability to understand what goes in which bin.
We encourage you to check out the ‘WHICH BIN?’ website to find out how you can play your part!
