Pop-up food vans at the Foreshore – safety first

From this Wednesday 17 February until the end of June, Council will be trialling a new model of pop-up food service from the Foreshore area.

A section of the marina carpark adjacent the jetty entrance will be closed each week, making the area family safe and pedestrian friendly.

All food vans will be concentrated in this zone, enabling them to service the high level of foot traffic to the new jetty  as well as offering consumers a variety of food offerings in one location.

As part of the trial, from 7am to 8pm each Wednesday through to Sunday there will be a temporary closure of the marina carpark adjacent the jetty entrance (see map below).

The main driver behind the concept is to ensure the community are able to access a variety of food vans safely and confidently, without the risk of navigating traffic, reversing vehicles etc.

Council urges residents to support the local food vans wherever possible and to take advantage of the nearby marquee, tables and chairs - the perfect place to sit and enjoy the lovely foreshore views.

As this is a trial concept, we encourage you to provide you thoughts and feedback via the three options below:

Elliott Street east-bound lane roadworks

Kerbing replacement works have commenced today along Elliott Street, these works will start from the Playford Avenue end and progress along Elliott Street to Essington Lewis Avenue.

Initially traffic will be restricted to the right-hand lane whilst kerbing is replaced in front of residences.  Route 1 Bus stops 5 and 6 will be temporarily relocated for
2-3 days as works in front of the existing bus stops is undertaken.  There will also be intermittent restricted parking in front of residences as work progresses.

Once the kerbing crew reaches Essington Lewis Avenue, they will then turn around and work back towards Playford Avenue, replacing the kerbs on the north side of the median strips.  At that stage traffic will then be restricted to the left-hand lane whilst these median strip kerb replacement works are undertaken.

These works are expected to take up to 2 months to be complete and directly affected residents have been advised via letterbox drop.

Council urges the community to drive safely and be aware of changed traffic conditions and reduced speed requirements in this area.

Calling all stallholders

Planning is in full swing for this year’s 2021 uneARTh Festival, and here’s your opportunity to be part of the fun!

We’re looking for a selection of fantastic food and drinks, as well as a variety of stalls showcasing different wares - think handcrafts, clothing, novelties, garden supplies or whatever your niche or hobby is.

There’s three opportunities to host a stall as part of the festival:

A Night Market on Friday 19 March 2021 from 5pm - 9pm located at the Ada Ryan Gardens.

Followed by two days, Saturday 27 March and Sunday 28 March 2021 at Jessop White Park from 11am – 3pm to support the festivities happening within the hall.

These markets will be environmentally friendly, with all stallholders strongly encouraged to use compostable packaging where possible.

There are also options for stallholders who are not able to be a part of being environmentally sustainable – just contact Ann Yates from Council’s Events Team on 8640 3444 or ann.yates@whyalla.sa.gov.au with any questions.
