An amazing night to kick off uneARTh Festival 2021!

Whyalla kicked off uneARTh in spectacular style, with a signature event on Friday night signalling the start of ten full days of Fringe-esque events.

Near perfect weather set the scene for a wonderful Opening Night celebration, with over a thousand people gathering in the Ada Ryan Gardens for an epic night of music, cabaret and diverse food and markets.

The next day, Norton Park came alive with sounds from “Billie”, a custom-built sound and light caravan with DJ Ruby Chew at the helm.  Community members pitched in to add a lick of colour to the pump track, helping artist Scott Rathman from Rusted Tin – Contemporary Aboriginal Arts.

The fun continued with live local bands rocking it out at RiskIt Skatepark later in the day.

And over the weekend, the Whyalla Public Library played host to both a poetry slam and an experimental writing performance with ‘Unearth Words’ and ‘Memoryteller’.

New large-scale artworks are taking shape at both the Alex Ramsey Community Hub and the old outdoor theatre site on Essington Lewis Avenue – make sure to head along and check out these works in progress!

And to further add to the magic and creative mayhem of the weekend, beachgoers were treated to a glorious fire breathing dragon and elephant that sprang up on the sands along the foreshore.

But the fun isn’t over yet as this year’s festival is like no other - there’s still more events and activities scheduled for every single day for the rest of this week!
