Road Sealing rolls on

Whyalla City Council is continuing to improve local roads and footpaths, with works scheduled to reseal around 80,000m2 of existing roads by the end of this financial year.

The asphalt road sealing program is set to commence from 7 June 2021, with an intense program of works scheduled to ensure they are completed by the end of June 2021.

Roadworks will begin from Essington Lewis Avenue and there will be restrictions to parking access around the Hospital for a few days whilst road sealing occurs adjacent the Hospital grounds and kerbing work on Wood Terrace is nearing completion.

These upgrades will provide more parks adjacent the Hospital, countering regular parking congestion and helping to reduce the need for people to cross the street – minimising the risk from interacting with traffic – which is particularly important given the number of elderly and unwell residents accessing this service.

In an endeavour to finish all scheduled roadworks before the end of the financial year, it’s likely that the Boral crew will continue to work throughout the upcoming June long weekend.

There may also be a few night shifts of sealing works in areas where there is likely to be little noise impact should the need arise to maintain the program.

All affected residents will be notified by letterbox drop from Boral in the next few days.

Heavy vehicle movements along Norrie Avenue will be restricted for a few days whilst this work is undertaken, and detours for heavy vehicle loads may need to be implemented.

Once the road resealing is completed, line-marking works will follow closely after.

Council thanks the community for their ongoing support whilst these infrastructure improvements take place and reminds motorists and pedestrians to take care and obey all signs and instructions, be aware of changed traffic conditions and drive accordingly.
