Public input sought on playground upgrades

Turnfly, cantilever, altima, aeroskate, trivium, double spring perch, hip hop – sound intriguing?

We hope so, because they’re all pieces of playground equipment and here’s your chance to have a say on which ones you would like to see in two soon-to-be upgraded playgrounds in Whyalla.

The City of Whyalla has allocated funds to redevelop the reserves at both Trevan Street and Loring Street and is seeking public input as to what type of equipment should be included in the upgrades.

In particular, Council would like to know what sort of signature items and playground equipment will best meet the needs of the community.

Whyalla Mayor Clare McLaughlin said public consultation was an important aspect in all city projects and encouraged residents to have their say on what they would like to see in these soon-to-be redeveloped parks.

“Here are more exciting projects that will present a bright, new aspect to these areas and benefit local residents, enhancing quality of life and encouraging outdoor engagement and play.”

“We want you, the residents, to ultimately tell us what sort of features you’d like to see and what would be best suited to these parks” Mayor McLaughlin said.

The playgrounds at both Trevan Street and Loring Street reserves have been earmarked to be replaced/upgraded within the next twelve months, with residents asked to nominate what sort of play equipment they’d like.

As Council is seeking to understand what motivates and inspires users of these areas in order to provide the best possible equipment and facilities, the survey includes questions about your favourite aspects of a playground, and what are the most favoured play activities.

Council also seeks to be as inclusive as possible and so is seeking feedback on whether adult exercise equipment or play equipment specifically designed for persons with disabilities would be used.

Residents can have their say on the proposed parks redevelopment by filling out a no-strings attached, simple survey at https://bit.ly/3rgYdYe.

Hard copies of the survey are also available at the Council front counter on Darling Terrace, at the Whyalla Public Library on Ekblom Street and the Whyalla Visitor Centre on Lincoln Highway (adjacent the ship).

For further information about the proposed playground upgrades please contact Ann Ryan on 8640 3444 or ann.ryan@whyalla.sa.gov.au.

Consultation closes at 5pm on Friday 26 February 2021.
