All dog and cat owners must register their animals with council annually between 1 July and 31 August.
A late fee may apply if registered after 31 August 2021.
If you own a dog or cat that is currently registered with council, you should have received, or will shortly receive a registration renewal notification via post, email or SMS.
The process to renew your dog and cat registration in DACO (Dogs And Cats Online) is quick and simple.
To renew registration, or to register for the first time, go to DACO - www.dogsandcatsonline.com.au - click Login if you are an existing user, or click Register if you do not have a login and are renewing your animals with your renewal code and surname.
Payment for registrations can be made securely online in DACO using a visa credit or debit card.
From 1 July 2018, all dogs and cats, regardless of age, must be microchipped. Having your dog or cat microchipped does not mean it is registered with council.
Expiation notices can be issued to owners found to be keeping an unregistered dog or cat.
It is a requirement under the Dog and Cat Management Act to update DACO if your dog or cat;
- Is removed from where it is usually kept with the intention that it will be kept at some other place,
- The dog or cat dies,
- The dog or cat has been missing for more than 72 hours,
- The ownership of the dog or cat is transferred to another person.
If the ownership of the animal is transferred to another person, the current owner must initiate the transfer in DACO and provide details of the new owner.
The new owner will receive a transfer code which is used in DACO to “claim” the animal.
Council customer service staff are happy to assist residents with any issues relating to DACO and payments for registration can still be made over the counter at council.
