Draft Annual Business Plan & Budget

Around 20 residents attended a public information session on Tuesday evening (4 May) at the Mount Laura Homestead Museum building.
The session involved a half hour presentation from the Chief Executive Officer focusing on Council’s current financial situation, as well as where the community would like to see the city head into the future.
This was framed around the decision that is before the community; would they be willing to pay an additional rate increase to ensure that all current services can continue into the future, or does Council need to look at trimming back on services across the board.
The conversation after the presentation went for approximately 45 mins and involved a healthy debate, with a number of different opinions and perspectives shared.
A full copy of Council’s draft FY22 Annual Business Plan and Budget – as well as supporting documentation – is available to view at Council offices or the by visiting Council’s website at www.whyalla.sa.gov.au/council/publicconsultation.

Alternatively feedback can be emailed to council@whyalla.sa.gov.au or dropped to the Council office.
Verbal submissions relating to the draft document can also be made at the General Council meeting on Monday 17 May 2021 commencing at 5:30pm.
Public consultation closes on Friday 21 May, with all feedback received on the Draft Annual Business Plan and Budget to be carefully considered by Council prior to the adoption of the Annual Business Plan and Budget in June.
Community Connection
Whyalla City Council is always looking at ways to connect and engage with our community!
We recently organised a pop-up booth at Westland Shopping Centre, giving people the opportunity to have a chat with elected members and staff in an informal setting.
Deputy Mayor Phill Stone, Councillor Bill Simpson and CEO Justin Commons were on hand to talk about all things Council and Whyalla-related.
Lots of people took advantage of the opportunity and stopped to have a conversation, with topics ranging from parking regulations, carports, cuttlefish, the beach café, street flooding, heritage matters, RV dump points, public toilets and more.
We’re looking to make this a regular occurrence, with our next pop-up planned for Thursday 20 May in the Food Court outside Woolworths.
There will be two session times:
- From 11am to 1pm to cover the lunch rush
- From 5pm to 7pm to cater for those who work
Keep an eye out for the Council table and drop by, pull up a chair and have a chat – we look forward to seeing you there.
