Clean Up Australia Day
Clean Up Australia Day is next Sunday 7 March, and Emma Wake from The Green Economy has stepped up to organise a free community clean up event.
If you would like to take part, all you need to do is head along to Wilson Park next Sunday (7 March) anytime from 9:30am to midday to register and then get cleaning up!
There will be a collection of Clean Up bags available and a large trailer bin to empty everything into, but please be prepared and remember to bring:
- Hats
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Gloves
- Appropriate footwear
- Water bottle
Round up your friends, your family, your colleagues – it’s more fun with others and a great way to build that wonderful sense of community that Whyalla is renowned for.
And make sure you take advantage of the FREE sausage sizzle afterwards, with meat and soft drinks proudly supplied by Whyalla City Council and Azzopardi Butchers.
We’d like to thank Emma for stepping up and taking on the coordinator role, and we’d also like to acknowledge Veolia for their support of this Australia-wide initiative.

Free skip bins over the long weekend
In a new initiative, Council and Cleanaway will be providing four skip bins to help residents ‘clean up’ over the long weekend.
The skip bins will be in place from Friday 5 March until Monday 8 March, with Cleanaway emptying them daily.
The location of the skip bins has been carefully selected for accessibility and to ensure they are spread across the city.
The skips will be at the following sites:
- Miriam Hickey Reserve (the corners of Wood, Barson and Sharp streets)
- Haynes Park – opposite Bradford Reserve (the corners of Duncan, Beerworth and Bradford streets
- Schulz Reserve – in the carpark; and
- On the corner of Cartledge and Jenkins Avenue.
Please respect this initiative and place only non-hazardous materials in the bins (no car batteries, gas bottles, paints, flammable items etc).
Items should also NOT be left out next to the bins, if there’s no room in the skip then either
- hold your items over until the next day after the skip has emptied, or
- consider disposing via the weekly kerbside pick-up service, or
- take advantage of Council’s FREE hard waste collection service.
Please refer to the map below to see where the four skip bins will be located.
