ALDI Whyalla set to open
The wait is nearly over, with ALDI set to officially open the doors to its new Whyalla store from 8.30am on Wednesday 9th June.
The new 1700m2 ALDI store has been under the construction for the last few months and once open will be supported by a team of 15-20 permanent full and part-time employees.
The construction of the store has also had a positive economic impact, with 15–20 full-time equivalent jobs created during this time.
City of Whyalla Mayor Clare McLaughlin welcomed the new store, saying it was one of many major developments for the city.
“As well as ALDI now nearing completion, work is continuing on the new $100m State Government high school; our airport is undergoing a $12.1m, Federally-funded upgrade; while Electranet is undertaking a major construction project on our doorstep.
“All of this – combined with recent announcements regarding Port Bonython being a potential hydrogen hub for both the State and Federal Governments’ hydrogen ambitions – is helping create a genuine optimism about Whyalla’s future” Mayor McLaughlin said.
ALDI Whyalla will feature a number of innovations including simple navigation, expansive wooden produce bays and a modern interior store design.
Energy efficient chillers and LED lighting are a key fixture of the store, contributing to ALDI’s commitment to cut emissions.
ALDI Whyalla will become part of the supermarket’s robust food donation program, preventing unsold food from going to waste by donating products to local food rescue organisations.
Last year, ALDI donated more than 10 million meals and 34,000kg of non-food products to charity partners.
Rounding out the celebrations of the ALDI Whyalla opening, there will be a number of unique Special Buys on offer, which will not be available collectively in any other store.
The new store will be located at 10 Ekblom Street, Whyalla SA 5608.
Opening hours will be 8:30am-7pm Monday to Friday, 8:00am-7pm Saturday and 8:30am-7pm Sunday.
