As COVID-19 restrictions begin to ease, Whyalla City Council has re-opened the Visitor Information Centre.
“As visitors begin to return to our City, the Visitor Information Centre will again be able to provide them with all the information they require,” said Whyalla Mayor, Clare McLaughlin.
“Our staff, who have been working behind the scenes during the pandemic, having been looking forward to opening the doors,” she said.
The centre will operate under government restrictions to ensure social distancing and perspex screens have been installed at the counter to protect visitors and staff.
During the height of COVID-19, the centre was required to close its doors to the public due to safety reasons.
“The South Australian Government is now encouraging South Australians to travel to the regions, and we welcome this move.”
“Whyalla has many camping spots and some beautiful scenic destinations including Fitzgerald Bay, Point Lowly and the Whyalla Foreshore.”
The Visitor Information Centre will be open from 9:00am-4:00pm on weekdays only for the short-term.
Tours of the Whyalla Steelworks and the HMAS Whyalla will remain suspended until further notice. As per Government directives, the Whyalla Maritime Museum also remains closed at this stage.
“The return of visitors and tourists to our region is considered vital to our economic revival post-COVID-19. We look forward to welcoming them,” said Mayor McLaughlin.
