The Whyalla Child Care Centre is going red and yellow this week to support those affected by the South Australian bushfires and raise money for the Vinnies Bushfire Appeal and the SA CFS Foundation.

For the week of January 13 to 17, the centre is encouraging parents to dress their children in red or yellow, the CFS colours, to support the firefighters and also make a donation if possible.

The centre's early childhood teacher, Joanne Marsland said the children have already been making the cute Thank You Hearts which will be sent to the emergency service workers in South Australia.

“Like everyone, we have been overwhelmed and saddened by the heartbreaking bushfires all over our beautiful country,” Joanne said.

"So, this week we have decided to raise money for the many people affected by these fires and also show our support to the brave people battling the fires.

“There are so many worthy charities to choose from and we will divide the money raised equally between the Vinnies Bushfire Appeal and the SA CFS Foundation.”

Council staff have joined the effort and will be wearing red or yellow on Wednesday with fundraising being conducted throughout Council offices.
