In line with the South Australian Roadmap for easing COVID-19 restrictions, Council staff are gearing up to re-open the Whyalla Public Library from 10:00am today, Tuesday 12 May.
Council is committed to ensuring the ongoing safety of customers and staff whilst balancing the necessity to follow state government guidelines and directions.
As the number of persons attending must not exceed 10 people and social distancing requirements continue, staff have been carefully considering how to best resume services to the community.
The following modifications to service delivery will be implemented during Stage 1 of the Library reopening:
- The Library will be open on weekdays from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
- Doors will be manned and access monitored by a staff member.
- ENTRANCE to the Library will be via the FRONT door on the Westlands car park side.
- EXIT from the Library will be via the REAR door on Ekblom Street.
- Hand sanitizer will be available at each door and customers are expected to sanitize on arrival and departure.
- Limited computers access with a 15-minute limit.
- Protective plexiglass screens have been installed at customer service counters.
Due to Federal Government directives, the Library has been closed since Wednesday 25 March. During this time staff have been working behind closed doors, answering phone calls and email enquiries and ensuring that all library stock is cleaned and sanitized. Alternative options of service delivery have also been considered and worked through. As a result, Council is pleased to offer the community the following extra services during COVID19:
Click and Collect
- Place your own hold via the Libraries SA app.
- Call the Library on 8645 7891 to arrange a time to collect items.
- No need to enter the library to collect (this will ensure minimum people gathering around the entrance area).
Drop and Wave – free delivery to your door
- Complete and lodge an application form.
- Call the Library on 8645 7891 to book up to 10 items using Library card OR place a hold via the Libraries SA app and request home delivery.
- Contactless delivery with items left on the front doorstep.
- Staff will phone from the vehicle to advise delivery.
- Items to be returned to afterhours return chutes when due.
The re-opening of the Library - in addition to last week’s re-opening of all playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor exercise equipment - is great news for Whyalla’s wellbeing and sends a strong message to our community that our collective efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 have been worthwhile.
