The Whyalla City Council 3-year Road Delivery program is one step closer to completion with the upgrade of Gulf View Drive at Point Lowly.

A further 1.5km section of Gulf View Drive is now sealed, enabling better and safer access to the area.

The Gulf View Drive upgrade was part of the unsealed roads program for 2020 and completes the road sealing from the Fitzgerald Bay turn off to Backy Bay.

“Visitors and locals can now travel on a sealed road from the Fitzgerald Bay turnoff to Backy Bay, this road will enable a more comfortable journey to this scenic and popular coastal area,” said Council’s Manager Roads, Thomas Spirat.

Future works in the pipeline are to progressively seal the remaining 6kms of unsealed road between Backy Bay and Pt Douglas.

“Roadworks is a rolling program throughout the city and the region that never ends,” Mr Spirat said.

“This program of works is delivering improved services to the people of Whyalla and to those who visit our region, this upgrade of Gulf View Drive makes our spectacular northern coastline more accessible.”

“That we have been able to continue with our program of works during the pandemic, is thanks to the work safety measures put in place by Council,” he said.
