The next Whyalla Council meeting will be held on Monday 20 April at 5:30pm.
Members of the public are normally able to observe the Council meeting from the public gallery at the rear of the Council Chamber.
However, Government directives in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have limited the number of people that can gather in one place as public gatherings significantly increase the risk of COVID-19 spreading.
For this meeting the Council Chamber will be re-arranged to ensure that social distancing principles are adhered to with the minimum requirement of 1 person per 4 square metres.
As Whyalla Council has 10 x Elected Members (Mayor plus 9 Councillors), once they are in the Chamber the maximum number of people in a public gathering has been reached.
Therefore no-one else will be permitted to enter the Chamber, this includes Council staff who will join the meeting via video conference when required.
Council has been carefully considering different options and work-arounds but does not have adequate technology to support streaming or recording of the meeting at this stage.
This means that for the first time ever, due to the unique circumstances caused by COVID-19, that there will be no public access to the Council meeting.
However, members of the public are reminded that that they are able to submit a question to the Council to be addressed during Public Question Time.
These questions are responded to at the meeting and a copy of the response provided.
Questions must be submitted on the appropriate form and received by noon on the day of the Council meeting – for further information please click here http://www.whyalla.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=1263.
The minutes from the Council meeting will be available from the website within five days of the meeting.
Council can be contacted by phone (8640 3444) or email (council@whyalla.sa.gov.au).
