From Cleanaway – Temporary service change
"Cleanaway are continually reviewing our business practices and implementing preventative measures in relation to the outbreak of COVID-19, with a sole focus on ensuring that we can continue to provide services, while ensuring our people and the community are safe.
An internal HSE review of kerbside waste collection processes, in the current COVID-19 environment, has determined that there is an increased risk to the health and safety of our drivers at this time due to the increased handling of bins. This is both a viral and manual handling risk and is likely due to an increase in the number of MGB’s obstructed at the collection point (possibly due to more people working from home).
As such, we are implementing a temporary change to the kerbside collection service which will instruct drivers that they must avoid manual handling of bins as much as practically possible in the current environment. This applies to bins that are obstructed at the point of collection but does not apply to designated infirm collections."
To support Cleanaway in these actions, we request:
1. Residents must present bins in a way that prevents obstruction at the collection point (ie. away from parked cars etc)
2. As part of this temporary change, bins that are obstructed at the point of collection will not be treated as a Missed Service
NOTE: Please be reassured that this is a temporary measure.
We trust you understand that these temporary changes are necessary to ensure the health and safety of our drivers and the communities they work in. Cleanaway are meeting regularly to review the above and will keep you informed of any changes.
