TO BE REPLACED: The two navigational beacons at Point Lowly Marina.
The City of Whyalla is asking boaties and pedestrians to take extra care at the Point Lowly marina over the next couple of days as marine navigation beacons are removed and replaced.
Work will start tomorrow (Thursday, March 28) to install two new beacons on top of the breakwaters on opposite sides of the marina mouth. The old beacons are reaching the end of their working life and are hard to service in their existing positions with one starting to lean noticeably in the water.
Council Project Manager Sam Bourne said the marina would not be closed while this work is carried out but boaties were asked to be extra careful and vigilant when they exit and enter the marina over the next couple of days. Davey Hydraulics, from Port Victoria on the Yorke Peninsula, will be performing the work at the marina.
“Davey Hydraulics has told us that boaties will still be able to exit and enter the marina with little fuss while these works are occurring,” Sam said.
“This is a company experienced in these situations but we still ask boaties to be extra careful while this work is being done and obey all signage and instructions from the contractors.”

REPLACEMENTS: The location for the two new navigational beacons.
This work continues a maintenance program at the marina that included a Council crew tidying up a jagged section of the pontoon recently to stop boats being scratched.
Another contractor is due back at the marina in the next couple of weeks to replace rubber protection on the floating pontoon where boats come in and clean up some rocks that have come down off the breakwaters.
Enquiries about these works can be made to Sam Bourne on 8640 3444.
