Four short films have been revealed for this year’s Whyalla Film Festival.
Festival organiser Michal Hughes said the four main films were all proudly Whyalla-centric, with value added to the April 12 festival by the screening of the winners of the 60 second Film Festival and the Whyalla Weirdness exhibition.
Metamorphosis by Whyalla artist Leith O’Malley, Life Lessons by D’faces, a Whyalla youth arts organisation in collaboration with Whyalla Aged Care, Jonathan Bird’s Blue World Giant Cuttlefish short documentary, and Welcome to Iron Knob by David Wade will headline the bill at the 2019 Whyalla Film Festival.
Michal said each of the four films represented something unique about Whyalla, a theme that would continue through the soon-to-be-announced 60 Second Film Festival winners that will screen as part of the main festival.
“It is such a buzz to have all this Whyalla content for this year’s Film Festival,” Michal said.
“We’ve drawn together some of the best films around that have featured Whyalla and we can’t wait to see what our local filmmakers have come up with in their 60-second films.
“For those that haven’t seen Whyalla Weirdness by Michael Rostig, it is an amazing series of animations made using drawings by Whyalla school students.”
The 2019 Film Festival, on Friday, April 12 at the Middleback Arts Centre, is the opening event of the Whyalla’s uneARTh Festival, which runs until Sunday April 21.
