49TH ANNUAL WHYALLA SHOW: Show Society president Tamy Pond is excited for this year's event.
The Whyalla Show is only a few weeks away and is shaping up to be bigger and better than last year.
Hoping to top last year's record crowd, Whyalla Show Society president Tamy Pond and her selfless volunteers have been working hard behind the scenes of the event proudly sponsored and supported by the City of Whyalla.
With the usual huge list of stalls and rides, there is plenty for the whole family with some new and exciting things to see and do. Tamy is genuinely excited about this year's Show on Saturday-Sunday, August 17-18, at Jubilee Park.
“This is our 49th Show and it is just around the corner," Tamy said.
"All our hard-working volunteers are getting excited, we’ve got a heap of new attractions and some old favourites too.
“The selection of attractions this year is huge, especially the food, people are going to be blown away the sheer variety of food on offer from Sri Lankan to Mexican, there’s deep fried mars bars and a creperie, you name it, we just might have it."

BIGGER AND BETTER: Organisers are hoping to top last year's record crowd.
Tamy said the Show Society was expecting another record crowd to top last year's numbers, with more than 150 stalls this year and fast running out of space to fit them all in. The popular fireworks will again blast off at 8pm on Saturday night.
“We have some fantastic entertainment this year, some you may have seen before like the ‘Amazing Drumming Monkeys’ and the stilt walkers, but there is always something new like the ‘Giant Teddy Bears and Water Drops bubble show," Tamy said.
“We have some exciting new features this year such as the services shed which is a place where we can showcase different services available to the people of Whyalla
"This year we will have the likes of Respirico, Pink Spirits and Heartbeat to name a few.
“Another exciting addition this year is ‘Comedy Hour’, a fun filled hour where the ‘Beautiful Bogan’ comedian, Marc Ryan will be performing a stand up piece and perhaps roast a few locals as well.”

Every year there is a variety of competitions to enter with some fantastic prizes up for grabs. If you are interested you can check out the competitive section in this year's guide which is available at the Council office on Darling Street, the Visitor and Information Centre and many shops and retail outlets throughout the city.
“We have so many competitions every year to enter and people are always surprised by the prizes we have on offer, so if you have any passions and hobbies that meet our criteria please enter so everyone can see your fantastic work.” Tamy said
Along with urging everyone to come along and enjoy this year's Show, Tamy is also encouraging members of the community to take an active role in bringing the Show to life each year.
“I am very passionate about the Show and the community," Tamy said.
"I have actually taken leave without pay at the moment to make sure the Show is as good as it can be, we are always after committee members and volunteers.
"If you are just as passionate about the community as I am then we would love to have you, if you are interested please give us a call and help us to keep bringing this fantastic event to life.”
