It’s hot, hot, hot … so what better way to cool down than a mega water fight.
The hot spell we’re experiencing is a perfect backdrop for the Whyalla Youth Advisory Committee’s The Circus Is Coming event at Norton Park on McRitchie Crescent on Friday. As one last hurrah for the school holidays there will be huge water fight, circus workshops and demos and a free sausage sizzle.
The Circus Is Coming is also a perfect opportunity to continue the community consultation around the upgrade of Norton Park.
“We have been around to the schools and in the community and we’ve already consulted with approximately 150 young people around how they would like to see the park look,” Council Youth Development Officer Gail Rostig said.
“We will continue this process for the next few weeks and with a stack of fun happening on Friday, it will be another opportunity for people to check out Norton Park and tell us what they’d like there with the proposed redevelopment.
“We want to hear from the young people and residents of Whyalla Stuart who love a good outdoor place space.”
The day gets underway at 10.30am as the peeps from Cirkidz run lessons on how to become a circus star. They’ll have demos and then a chance to do some tricks yourself.
After all that tumbling you are going to be hungry, so we are going to feed you with a free sausage sizzle available.
Then after the sizzle it will be time for a soaking at about 1.30pm!
“We want to hear from the young people and residents of Whyalla Stuart who love a good outdoor place space.”
Bring your super soakers for maximum soakage and join a team so the battle can begin. Water consumption will be carefully monitored with a couple of pools especially for the event and no water balloons are allowed to help protect the environment.
“Part of the redevelopment of Norton Park is more grass, so this is a chance to give the Council workers a break and water the grass we’ve already got there while you think about what else you’d like in the park,” Gail said.
The Circus Is Coming event kicks off at 10.30am at Norton Park on McRitchie Crescent on Friday, January 25.
