LONG HAUL: Dave Checker, from Charleston in the Adelaide Hills, is in Whyalla on the way to Port Lincoln.

The Historic Commercial Vehicle Club’s South Australian Branch has made a stopover in Whyalla on its way to Port Lincoln.

The members will be staying in Whyalla tonight and visiting the Mt Laura Homestead Museum tomorrow (Wednesday, September 18) where their trucks will go on display in the carpark. The public is invited to come down to the museum between 10.30am and 1pm to see the trucks and have a chat with the owners.

Club members, with their trucks and commercial vehicles of many different types, meet three times yearly in different locations within the State. The club is stopping in Whyalla on its way to a meet in Port Lincoln over the weekend.

"Whyalla seemed like a perfect place to break the trip especially as some of the vehicles don’t travel very quickly and are coming from as far away as Mt Gambier, Jamestown and Adelaide within South Australia and Croydon, Highett and Lancefield in Victoria," club member Allen said.

All vehicles are road registered and range between the Whyalla members John and Janiece McWaters’ 1920 W&G Du Cros to more modern vehicles such as a 1987 Ford F150.

The Mt Laura Homestead Museum, and its own wide range of historic engines and vehicles, is also open for the day for the public to check out.

Location: Mt Laura Homestead Museum, Ekblom Street, off Nicolson Avenue, behind Westland Shopping Centre & adjacent the Whyalla Public Library.

Open: Weekdays 10am to 3pm, Sunday 1pm to 4pm. Closed Saturday.
