UPGRADE: The toilets at Ada Ryan Gardens that will undergo renovation.

The City of Whyalla will start work on refurbishing the toilet block at Ada Ryan Gardens this week.

Starting on Wednesday (May 22), the extensive renovation will bring the toilet facility up to a modern standard and remove the asbestos ceiling. Temporary fencing will be installed around the toilets and the public is asked to keep its distance from the site for the next week, or until further notice, while the asbestos is removed.

The foreshore toilets remain open while the new multi-access toilet next to the old block will be available again once the asbestos is removed from the old block.

ALTERNATIVE: The new multi-use toilet block in Ada Ryan Gardens will be available during renovation of the old toilet block after all asbestos is removed. Until then, there are toilets at the nearby foreshore.

Council Project Manager Landscape Sam Bourne said this latest $27,000 project to renovate the gardens toilet block is part of Council’s continuous program to assess and upgrade facilities where required.

“These toilet blocks, and many other in Whyalla, have served the city well but are now in need of renovation,” Sam said.

“Like all public assets in our city that received heavy use, they reach the point where they must either be replaced or renovated.

“Structures like the one in Ada Ryan Gardens are sound, they just need some upgrading to bring them up to a standard our residents and visitors deserve.”

The public is asked to respect the security fencing and any directions or signs put up by contractors during this work. The project is expected to be finished by Friday, June 14.
