It’s hot today and it’s going to be a scorcher in Whyalla tomorrow.

The City of Whyalla urges people to stay safe, stay out of the sun as much as possible and watch out for those who could be at risk.

Regularly check on elderly relatives or friends to make sure they are cool and hydrated while ensuring your children keep up the fluids and stay out of the sun.

Keeping your pets safe is important too. If they have to be left at home during the day, make sure they have shade and lots of water. Dogs, or any pets, should not be left in the car when you are out and about.

SCORCHERS: The forecast for today in Whyalla and the next three days.

If you are looking to escape the heat or just find a glass of water, the Whyalla Public Library will be open during the day as will the council offices on Darling Street. For entertainment, the Whyalla Maritime Museum will be open with cool air conditioning or it could be a great time to catch a movie at the air-conditioned Middleback Arts Centre cinema.

The Mt Laura Homestead Museum has some air-conditioned buildings and a shady garden for those looking for something to do on a scorching day.

The Whyalla Recreation Centre on Racecourse Road will also be open with indoor pools and the slide operating between 11am and 3pm. To help even further with the heat, the rec centre is giving away free zooper dooper ice blocks.

There is a severe Fire Danger Rating for Whyalla and a fire ban.

Anyone finding themselves in difficulty due to the heat should ring 000.
