Report outages to the relevant school

A spate of school crossing light failures this week is a timely reminder for motorists, parents and children to be careful around schools at all times.

School traffic lights were reported to be out of order on Monday morning at Hincks Avenue Primary School, Fisk Street Primary School and Town Primary School. These issues were reported to the City of Whyalla and consequently referred to the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) to be fixed.

While happy to help out on this occasion, Council isn’t responsible for these lights with motorists and parents advised to report it direct to the relevant school or, if unable to do that, ring DPTI on 1800 018 313.

Council CEO Chris Cowley thanked the people who reported the lights out and urged everyone to be extra careful and vigilant around schools at all times and especially around crossings as children enter or leave school.

“It is a great thing we’ve got people in our community who quickly jump into action and get these things reported,” Chris said.

“Ringing the school direct is an even more efficient way to report school traffic light issues as they have the right details for DPTI.

“I’d urge everyone to slow down around schools at all times regardless and obey the speed limits without fail.”

Council-related issues in our community can be reported by phone on 8640 3444 any time of the day or by email council@whyalla.sa.gov.au or via our online customer request form https://www.whyalla.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=774 or by downloading the free My Local Services app http://www.lga.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=4099 and using the “report it” button.

Council’s online forms are not monitored outside of business house and emergency or life-threatening situations should be reported by dialing 000.
