The City of Whyalla Parks and Open Spaces crews are continuing to roll out a carpet of native colour, beauty and shade for our city.

Last Thursday the timing was perfect, after the furnace-like Wednesday, to plant some more native plants in the Whyalla Public Library carpark.

Council crews put in some Frangipani plants and small shrubs in the verges between the parking spaces and in front of the carpark.

NATIVE BEAUTY: Providing colour and beauty to public spaces.

Supervisor Parks and Open Spaces, Tracy Robertson said while the plants don’t look like much now, with some continued love and care from the council crews, they will grow to become a real splash of colour at the entrance to our library.

“They will all grow to a reasonable size to create some shade and add some more colour and beautification of this area,” Tracy said.

“The staff at the library thought this area needed a bit more colour and shade so our crews went into action and have put some natives in that will make a real difference.”

As part of a rolling program to plant more natives around the city, crews have also planted some Jacarandas and put down water-saving mulch on Jenkins Avenue verges. The program will continue with more verge work and plantings in our reserves.
