Whyalla’s uneARTh Festival has connected with its image for 2020 following last week's Poster Competition announcement.

The bright and colourful submission by Whyalla artist Olivia White was chosen by the competition judges as the artwork to promote uneARTh to the world. It was unveiled at Thursday night's festival Information Night at the uneARTh HQ in City Plaza.

Stall holders and performers for next year’s event rolled up to hear about the 2020 festival and see Olivia’s winning entry which features a stylistic feline character and flying fish connecting with the uneARTh branding.

Council Arts and Cultural Facilitator, uneARTh committee member and one of the competition judges, Deb Hughes said Olivia’s artwork edged out many quality submissions for the poster competition which carried a $500 first prize. Olivia’s work will now be the connecting face of uneARTh through media, promotion and merchandise.

“We really liked the colour and energy of Olivia’s piece,” Deb said.

“The feline character, the crazy disco fish and the colours really connect with Whyalla and our sun, fun, sand and sea.

“It is a clean, colourful composition that will really lend itself to promoting uneARTh and Whyalla through a variety of mediums.”

Olivia was pleasantly surprised her work was chosen and happy the judges liked the poster. She felt it could be applied in lots of fun ways for the 2020 uneARTh Festival.

"I had been throwing around a bunch of random ideas of fun, silly fringy things and this composition of a close-up cat watching disco fish came up in my sketching," Olivia said.

"I liked the composition and the simple idea and just thought 'what the heck' I'll do that.

"I made it quite quickly and wanted it be fresh and graphic with an interesting colour palette. I guess in a way it puts the viewer, the audience at the forefront."

Stall holders and performers at the Information Night were given a rundown of next year’s uneARTh Festival.

The 2020 event will feature an opening event on Friday, March 20, a jam-packed 12-hour feature day at Ada Ryan Gardens on Saturday, March 21 and a Colour Run/Fun Day on Sunday, March 22 along with a host of supporting satellite events leading up to the main weekend.
