BACK HOME: Mikey with his owner Andrew Barp from Farrell Flat.
If you ever wanted to know why you should get your cat microchipped and registered ... here's one great reason.
Thanks to the Plains Producer newspaper, we're able to share this fantastic yarn about a family that lost it's cat Mikey seven years ago in the Clare region.
When a similar cat was spotted near their home recently, it was only because Mikey was microchipped they were able to find out this was indeed their little ginger moggy.
Enjoy this story and remember to microchip and register your cats (and dogs).

Mikey's nine lives
By Sally Crowther - Plains Producer
THEY say cats have nine lives, and over the past seven years, Mikey the ginger ninja cat has surely gone through all of his!
Mikey, the much loved furry pet belonging to Andrew and Rhiannah Barp, went missing seven years ago when the couple resided in Clare.
Seven years on, Andrew and Rhiannah, who now live in Farrell Flat with their two children Lily May, six and Felix, two, were gobsmacked when they received a call to say Mikey had been found.
"Thanks to both a microchip and an ID disc with the owners details, Mikey was returned to his ecstatic family"
“We were speechless when we received the call, we couldn’t believe that after seven long years, Mikey was not only alive, but still wearing the harness we had put him in before he went missing,” Andrew said.

FAMILY PET RETURNS: Lily May, six and Felix, two, weren't even born when Mikey went missing.
The happy reunion was thanks to a local who had seen a cat wearing a harness wandering the Maunu feedlot.
Worried about the sighting, they set up a trap provided by the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council.
Thanks to both a microchip and an ID disc with the owners details, Mikey was returned to his ecstatic family.
“He hasn’t forgotten us over the years and still loves his pats and cuddles. While he’s a bit skinny, it is quite surprising how healthy he is,” Andrew said.
“It would be quite interesting to find out what he has been doing over the past seven years!”
