GUEST SPEAKERS: Whyalla Mayor Clare McLaughlin, Adelaide Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor, Walkerville Mayor Elizabeth Fricker and Mitcham Mayor Heather Holmes-Ross

Whyalla Mayor Clare McLaughlin was one of four civic leaders to speak a recent urban studies forum in Adelaide.

Mayor McLaughlin joined Adelaide Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor, Walkerville Mayor Elizabeth Fricker and Mitcham Mayor Heather Holmes-Ross as guest speakers for The Australia Institute of Urban Studies (AIUS) New Mayor’s Forum.

The forum was a chance for people to meet some of the women shaping our future while also presenting information and provoking discussion on how the respective mayors planned to tackle climate change, foster local economies and build social inclusivity.

It was also an opportunity for the speakers to explain the future role of local government and their visions for the future of their communities along with the initiatives and projects they are most excited about.

Mayor McLaughlin said a valuable opportunity to show case what our city is doing in these critical areas of local government and community development.

“There was a keen interest in what is happening in Whyalla from all those in attendance,” Mayor McLaughlin said.

“It was such a valuable exercise to participate in this key forum and promote all the good things were are doing in Whyalla as a Council and community.”

Mayor McLaughlin said the event also served as a good information gathering exercise for Whyalla and a valuable networking opportunity for the city.
