SPECIAL SERVICE: Councillor Phill Stone, Mayor Clare McLaughlin and councillors Rick Santucci, Zia Westerman and Bill Simpson at the Public Memorial Service.
Whyalla Mayor Clare McLaughlin had the honour of speaking at the Public Memorial Service for palliative care in Whyalla on the weekend.
The annual event, hosted by the Whyalla Hospital and Service Palliative Care Team, was held in the Whyalla Hospital Memorial Gardens on Saturday. Mayor McLaughlin was joined by City of Whyalla councillors Phill Stone, Zia Westerman, Rick Santucci and Bill Simpson at the emotional and uplifting afternoon.
Mayor McLaughlin said it was a special privilege to speak at the event and pay tribute to the work undertaken on a daily basis by the Whyalla Hospital and Health Services’ Palliative Care Team and the support given to the service by those in the community.
“On behalf of the City of Whyalla, I would like to thank those who have worked tirelessly to provide comfort, care and support to loved ones and friends,” Mayor McLaughlin said.
“There are moments when life’s events become challenging – when many feel isolated, lost in their thoughts and frightened of what may lie ahead for them – this is a time when you’re at your lowest and you need to sit, reflect on your own life while others must consider their future without a loved one.
“This is where the wonderful people involved in palliative care in our hospital and community make such a huge difference for the body and the mind of all those involved.
“I think we all stand together to recognise the exceptional support provided by all those involved in Whyalla Palliative Care … you are truly valued.”
