SERVICE WITH A SMILE: Whyalla Mayor Clare McLaughlin in The Rotary Club of Whyalla’s food fan with husband Greg Coulter, and Leanne and Brian Herd.
Mayor Clare McLaughlin has congratulated the Whyalla Show Society after the “biggest crowd seen in years” at last weekend’s two-day event.
Mayor McLaughlin had a good vantage point to see the crowd filing through Jubilee Park as she helped in The Rotary Club of Whyalla’s food fan on Saturday serving hot chips and donuts for the local community group.
“The weather was just perfect and there was an amazing crowd on Saturday,” Mayor McLaughlin said.
“During my shift in the Rotary Club van we were flat out serving food to so many people who were having such a good time.
“Everyone was smiling and laughing, there always seemed to be something going on and the fireworks were again fantastic.
“Congratulations to the Whyalla Show Society and every volunteer that worked together to make this one of the best Shows ever.”

FUN AND THRILLS: The rides proved popular again this year at the Whyalla Show.
Show Society President Tamy Pond confirmed the Mayor’s assessment of the crowd on both days of the Show. While the weather was perfect on Saturday, it started well on Sunday before a half-hour early pack-up as the rain set in.
“We haven’t fully counted the gate but I can tell you it was the best take we’ve seen for a long time,” Tamy said on Monday after the Show.
“We had extra entertainment with something happening throughout both days and a lot of people stayed back for the new Comedy Hour feature.
“We also had lots of positive feedback on the extra food options provided this year.
“We (the Show Society and volunteers) are absolutely exhausted but it was all worth it when you see so many people having a good time. “

SPECTACULAR: A great fireworks show capped off Saturday's day at the Show.
Tamy thanked the Show Society committee, all the volunteers, traders and people that turned up for an event proudly supported by the City of Whyalla.
Included in those volunteers was a group of seven “boot campers” who enrolled through Snap Fitness to help pack up much of the Show.
“These boot campers were a huge help,” Tamy said.
“It showed the sort of community spirit we have got going here in Whyalla and with their help we were packed up within hours on Sunday.”
Volunteers are always welcome as preparations for next year’s Show start straight after the wash-up for this year’s event.
