CONSTRUCTION SITE: The small beach in the marina and the boat launching pontoon that remain in the construction site.

Wednesday, December 4, 2019

The small marina beach area (to the right of the boat launching pontoons) will remain off limits and part of the jetty construction site for the immediate future.

One section of the marina boat launching pontoon has also been removed and will not be replaced until it is no longer needed in the jetty construction process.

The beach and pontoon were placed inside the construction zone to initially allow the old jetty to be brought to shore and transported to the Whyalla steelworks for recycling.

The beach area has since been used to deliver the piles for the new jetty which are transported by barge around to the site of the new structure. The beach area will continue to be used to transport materials by barge as the construction process continues.

There remains pontoon facilities for launching boats in the marina but boaties are asked to be aware of construction movement on the water when they are launching and to obey the exclusion zone out to sea around the jetty construction area.

The swimming enclosure remains closed for the entirety of the jetty project due to the fact there is no breakwater access and because of the dangers involved in swimming close to a construction area where large equipment and construction materials are in the vicinity.

Council thanks the general public for their understanding and patience in these disruptions to the marina as our exciting new jetty is built.
