Have you got a mobile phone or device and a great idea for a film?
Is so, organisers of the 2019 Whyalla Film Festival want to hear from you and even help you create a 60-second short film that could be seen on the big screen at the April 12 event.
The festival has added the innovative 60-Second Film Festival to this year’s program to add even further creative diversity and community involvement. Festival organisers want people to get their mobile phones out and get out and about to create their own Whyalla-centric short film.
The top ten 60-second films will be shown in conjunction with the feature films at the Whyalla Film Festival with the winner in each category picking up an exclusive prize pack and cash.
Film festival organiser Michal Hughes said the new 60-second category was an exciting opportunity for anyone with a short-film idea to get involved in a very special event.
There are age categories of: Under 12; 13-17; 18 and over including groups and solo film makers. The competition is open to all Whyalla and greater Eyre Peninsula residents
“The 60 Second Film Festival is an easy, accessible, exciting and inclusive opportunity,” Michal said.
“We are seeing more and more people creating their own videos and showing them on social media … this is an chance to see your work on the big screen in front of a captive audience.
“All you need is a mobile phone or a device, a video editing app and a good idea for a short film involving Whyalla and various elements.”
The videos must be 60 seconds or less and must include at least three of the following elements: Whyalla, grass, pencil, water, the word unearth.
To get the cameras rolling, festival organisers will also be conducting workshops for people to learn the basics of film-making on their phone or device and other techniques.
“The prospect of making your own film can be equally exciting and a big terrifying so these workshops will guide you in the process of producing your entry to the 60-second festival,” Michal said.
“A festival coordinator and a local youth artist will assist you in making your film, guiding you through the process from planning and writing your script to shooting your film.
“You just need to remember the uneARTh Festival theme of identity and plan your idea.”
The Whyalla Film Festival will be screening on Friday, April 12 at the Middleback Arts Centre as an exciting new element to the award-winning 2019 uneARTh Festival with a diverse, exciting and entertaining catalogue of films.
