HAPPY TO BE HOME: Jun Chavez accepts his Australian citizenship from Whyalla Mayor Clare McLaughlin.
Jun Chavez confirmed his love for Australia and his new home town Whyalla when he accepted his citizenship this week with Mayor Clare McLaughlin.
Jun first arrived in Whyalla after migrating from Province of Batangas in the Phillipines in 2011. After working as an apprentice hydraulics engineer he moved to Perth for work.
It wasn’t long, just two years, before the pull of Whyalla and his family connections drew him back. Working now as a trades assistant for SRG Global, Jun said he was glad to be back in Whyalla and happy to be taking out Australian citizenship.
“It is great to be back in Whyalla working and with my family,” Jun said.
“I like Whyalla, it has that small-town feel and we have a very strong community here.”
