BARE STEEL: The old Whyalla jetty after the soft strip.
Friday, September 27, 2019
The soft strip of the old jetty is all but finished with the main frame the next demolition target.
This is where Elwood the barge and Chappy the tug will swing into action together.
Sections of the main frame will be cut out, lifted into the water and then floated to shore to be transported to the GFG Alliance Steelworks for recycling. The rails and ancillary metal removed in the soft strip will also be heading to the steelworks to be recycled.
The City of Whyalla once again thanks everyone for their patience, for staying out of the construction site and away from the water exclusion zone around the jetty. Security patrols are active in this area to ensure people obey the site restrictions for the safety of everyone involved.

DEMOLITION: Workers on Elwood the barge complete the last of the soft strip.
Demolition and construction contractors Maritime Constructions are continuing to monitor the water around the jetty site to keep the area clean. Areas further up the coast are also still being checked for debris from the recent fire on the old jetty.
