The five groups to receive funding
Weroona Bay Football Club
Requested assistance with the replacement of part of their perimeter fence which has fallen. This will reduce kangaroos being able to access the site and damage the oval. It has been noted that at night, up to 100 kangaroos have been present, this also results in members of the club having to remove animal faeces and undertake remedial work to the oval surface on a regular basis.
Grant funding approved $2,400.
Whyalla Photography Group
Requested assistance to host the Eyre Peninsula photography competition and Youth art competition in 2020. Both of the competitions will be linked to the Unearth Festival with the Youth competition and Eyre Peninsula event and workshop being held during the period 16 and 17April 2020. In addition, a Natural Light Portraiture workshop and other events will be scheduled over the weekend 17 and 18 April with Lou Marafloti, Internationally acclaimed photographer and fellow of the Australian Photographic Society (FAPS), an Excellence of the International Artist Photographers (EFIAP) and a judge for international, national and local competitions.
Grant funding recommended $1,135.
Whyalla FM Public Broadcasting Association Inc
Requested assistance for an upgrade of station equipment including a new computer, iPad and phone call system. The computer will provide the ability to purchase a computer for studio 2 to facilitate pre-recorded interviews with community groups, the iPad will allow community groups at outside broadcasts to submit community messages and be aware of what other events are happening in the city. The phone call system will provide the ability to do phone interviews with community members.
Grant funding recommended $2,400.
United Way South Australia Incorporated
Requested assistance to enrol 45 ‘at-risk’ children from Whyalla to The Imagination Library for a 12-month period. Each month the child receives one book that has been chosen to match the child’s age by professional early educators, totally 12 books per child for the year. The program is aimed at children 0-5years old with the idea of preparing the child with the first building blocks to learning whilst helping them with the necessary literacy skills they require to be ready to read, learn and succeed at school.
Grant funding recommended $2,400.
St Vincent De Paul Society
Requested assistance to re-design the front entrance of their property to improve client safety. The project will include the removal of existing ramp and the installation of a new concrete ramp and grab rail. These improvements will make it much easier for volunteers to access the building, particularly when they are carrying heavy loads.
Grant funding recommended $2,400.
All grant applications are assessed against the guidelines to ensure eligibility and to verify that the appropriate supportive documentation (such as financial statements) were included. It is not a requirement for an incorporated association in South Australia with gross receipts less than $500,000 to be audited. On assessment, not all the applicants have supplied an audited financial statement, however all have been assessed using the financial supporting documentation that has been submitted.
