Extra support for South Australians sleeping rough in the heat

A state-wide Code Red extreme weather response for people sleeping rough is being activated for tomorrow (Friday 3 January) due to the forecast hot temperatures across South Australia.

During a Code Red activation, the SA Housing Authority, together with its non-government partners, makes additional accommodation and services available for extended hours to assist people sleeping rough.

“Keeping vulnerable South Australians safe and well in the extreme heat forecast for tomorrow is our priority,” said Minister for Human Services, Michelle Lensink.

“During a Code Red, agencies across Adelaide will extend their daytime operating hours to ensure people sleeping rough are keeping cool and well-hydrated.

“I also urge the community to check-in on the elderly, those who are living alone and others who may require additional support at this time.”

In regional areas, anyone sleeping rough who needs assistance should contact the Homelessness Gateway on 1800 003 308.
