REJUVENATION: Local contractors beging dismantling one of the foreshore shelters.
Work has begun to rejuvenate the Whyalla foreshore beach access canopies and ensure their long-term future.
Local contractors M.J.M Abrasive Blasting began work on the three iron-roofed constructions today. This work involves the removal of all three roof/shade structures on the foreshore (over the next three weeks) where they will be taken away to have their posts, rails, beams and purlins blasted and cleaned back to bare metal. They will be then be primed and painted with marine grade paint and re-installed over another two-week period.
The next stage of the project will be to rejuvenate the steel supports on the “shade cloth” structures while replacing safety hitches, straps and shade cloth where required.

NEXT STAGE: The shade cloth canopies will be rejuvenated after the steel-roofed shelters.
Council Project Manager Landscape, Sam Bourne said the work was all pre-emptive to ensure the structures stay sound and continue to provide accessible and safe shade for beach goers.
“As you’d imagine, these structures cop a lot of weather and damage from the sun, wind and salt spray,” Sam said.
“This work is vital to ensure these structures remain sound and continue to look good for the next ten years.”
There will be minor disruptions to pedestrian traffic while this work is carried out and the public is asked to be mindful of the contractors on site and obey all signage.
