Whyalla twenty-year-old Andrew Pretorius took his vows with Mayor Clare McLaughlin last month to officially become an Australia citizen.

Andrew moved to Australia from South Africa with his family ten years ago, settling in Adelaide before moving again to Murray Bridge where he completed his schooling.

In March of last year, Andrew moved to Whyalla for a change in scenery and the opportunity to seek work, while completing his studies in hospitality.

“I absolutely love the beach here and the foreshore and you are always so close to the ocean, it was one of the reasons I chose to come to Whyalla,” Andrew said.

“The openness of the area and ability to go and explore on the weekends is another amazing aspect of Whyalla and the Spencer Gulf, I look forward to all the opportunities I will have by being in this wonderful city.”

Andrew felt that becoming an Aussie citizen was the next step for him as pursues his career and new life in Whyalla.

“Becoming an Australian citizen felt right to me and as a way to give back after all this country has provided for me and my family,” he said.
