Whyalla is set to come alive on Saturday June 1 as Whyalla’s CuttleFest 2019 kicks off with its inaugural grand opening.
CuttleFest is growing bigger and bigger and will celebrate the first day of three months of snorkel adventures, activities and events with this gala day at the foreshore between 11am and 2pm on the first Saturday in June..
The South Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, David Ridgway will be on hand to officially open CuttleFest 2019 and, weather permitting, go for a snorkel in the afternoon. The official opening at the foreshore will be followed by three hours of cuttlefish-related fun and activities.
Watch the Giant Cuttlefish kite take flight, make your own cuttlefish kite in the kids corner, see informative and interactive touch table displays featuring the cool virtual reality goggles, grab some dive and snorkel information, enjoy the coffee and donuts and get into the activities for the kids including a jumping castle and giant games. Community radio station Triple Y will also be there to broadcast live.

SPECIAL GUEST: South Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, David Ridgway will officially open CuttleFest 2019
Whyalla Visitor Information Centre team leader, and CuttleFest organising committee member, Teresa Coles said the first ever opening ceremony was an exciting way to dive into this year’s three months of cuttlefish activities.
“We are so honoured to have Minister Ridgway here for our first opening event and we hope everyone comes down to the foreshore to join in the celebrations,” Teresa said.
“I personally can’t wait to see our CuttleFest kites take off.
“There will be so much to see and do for all ages as CuttleFest continues to grow and we continue to recognise the importance of these wonderful creatures and celebrate this time of the year when they come to our waters.”
The opening ceremony kicks off an amazing array of events with the community really jumping on board to help organise these features and, of course, attend.
“This is a three-month celebration that not only helps up protect these amazing animals, it also puts Whyalla on the map as a progressive city to visit or work and live in,” Teresa said.
The opening ceremony is followed by three months of celebrations as CuttleFest runs throughout June, July and August. There will be guided snorkel tours, information nights, activities, displays, quiz competitions, art and photography displays, school holiday activities and games.
