ACTING CEO: Kristen Clark will take up his new role in December.

Tuesday, November 12, 2019

The City of Whyalla has appointed Kristen Clark as acting chief executive officer.

A decision to appoint Mr Clark was made by the elected members at a special meeting on Monday night. It follows the resignation of Chris Cowley who will be taking up the position of CEO with the City of Burnside early next year.

Mr Clark is presently the Council’s Director Infrastructure. He will be acting CEO for a period of up to six months.

Mayor Clare McLaughlin said the elected members were delighted to appoint Mr Clark to the acting CEO position and had full confidence he would continue steering the city on the same upward path established by Mr Cowley during his two and half years as CEO.

“Since taking up the role of Director Infrastructure earlier this year, Kristen has done an outstanding job on several major projects, including the new jetty, while contributing to many others including the redevelopment of Bennett and Memorial ovals,” Mayor McLaughlin said.

“Kristen inherited the complex jetty project and did an amazing job to push it through the mountain of red tape and technical considerations to get it underway and on track.

“Chris (Cowley) and Kristen have worked closely together for the past 12 months on many aspects of the city’s everyday operations so it will be business as usual for Council and all the exciting new projects and developments in our city.”
