CONSTRUCTION STARTS: The first piles are driven into the sea bed for the new Whyalla jetty.
Thursday, October 24, 2019
Whyalla residents may notice a slight thumping noise in the morning for the next month or so as the Maritime Construction crews start to drive in the piles for the new jetty.
The construction company building our new jetty has assured Council it will only be doing this work from 8am onwards to alleviate any possible sleep disruption for nearby residents.
The “thumping” signals another exciting stage in the jetty project. Two piles have already been driven into the sea bed next to the breakwater to get the ball rolling on the new jetty construction.

HISTORIC MOMENT: The first pile for the new jetty is driven in to the sea bed this week.
Maritime Constructions Adam Bolton said the noise from the pile driving would be fairly minimal to even those residents living close to the foreshore but the company was, at all times, mindful of any impact to the community from the construction process.
“This is an exciting stage of the project to be driving piles, in simple terms we are laying the foundations of the new Jetty,” Adam said.
“There is a bit of noise involved that may be heard by those living near the foreshore.
“We are mindful of the surrounding environment and are doing everything we can to minimise any impact on this environment.”

READY FOR MORE: The first piles in place for the new jetty.
The pile-driving work will be conducted on days where the weather conditions are favourable.
